controversy
Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان, Ramaḍān) is an Islamic religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when the Qur'an was revealed.
FastingThe most prominent event of this month is the daytime fasting
(sawm) practiced by most observant Muslims. Every day during the month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world get up before dawn to eat and perform their fajr prayer. They break their fast when the fourth prayer of the day, Maghrib (sunset), is due.
During Ramadan, Muslims are also expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam as well as refraining from lying, stealing, anger, envy, greed, lust, sarcastic retorts, backbiting, and gossip. Obscene and irreligious sights and sounds are to be avoided; sexual activities during fasting hours is also forbidden.[Qur'an 2:187] Purity of both thought and action is important.
The fast is intended to be an exacting act of deep personal worship in which Muslims seek a raised level of closeness to God. The act of fasting is said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities, its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm. Properly observing the fast is supposed to induce a comfortable feeling of peace and calm. It also allows Muslims to practice self-discipline, sacrifice, as well as sympathy for those who are less fortunate, intending to make Muslims more generous and charitable.---
gosh. so it's for the above reasons that muslims are supposed to fast.
i had just witnessed a terrifying incident on my way back from woodwood. As i strolled home, ignorant to all things as usual, a skinny malay lady feebly beckoned for me to stop. Sobbing away, she told me her discomfort and how she had just regained conciousness from fainting. Thankfully, there were two chinese men who had helped call her fiance but she had difficulty communicating with them and needed my help. But i was so helpless. :'( I asked if she needed the ambulance, offered her water and gave her tissue. That was all i could do before her worried fiance came along soon after.
It was indeed frightening. the mere thought of fainting in the middle of the night along the streets makes me shudder. She's really fortunate to have met two kind men and have a fiance to be there for her
(you cant imagine the relief in her voice when she saw him!) there's so much love in this world and im so inspired by the two chinese men!
fasting/skipping meals is scary. so to all those already skinny people out there, dont push your limits alright. take your meals regularly! as for those who are fasting, please eat well after break fast times! this makes me think that fasting is too much of a sacrifice. how can one's health be compromised? there are indeed many things i still do not understand. now, i wonder if anyone has protested against the idea of fasting.
and if the muslim community were to chance upon my entry, i will be so dead.
but well, my main objective was to caution those who are dieting/skipping meals to quit their unhealthy habits. so pardon me okay.
each footstep is a new love letter ♥
