down to three weeks
1. saturday (vicvic's 20th!)
there are some nasty nightmares that leave you feeling uneasy all day.
call me superstitious but it felt like a bad omen )':
oh well, i'm really glad i got everything cleared up!
no point getting all tensed up over what's untrue.
i realised i just have to cherish what i have now - this happiness (:

even though it was a bad start to the day, having woken up from the wrong side of bed, things got tons better! esp at her party (: we had a sumptuous meal of much-missed homecooked food and viewed lotsa vic's childhood pics of her travelling around australia and parts of europe (yes! we are all very jealous! also because she looks like paris' niece in those trenchcoats and shades!!! such good fashion sense since young huh (; ) oh yes, we also had a mini pageant preview in her room (laughs!!!!) before tucking in to a plate-licking-good homemade choco cake! it was indeed a jollyjolly affair!

on the other side of singapore, the night just started! a tiny part of me wished i could also be part of the group celebrating halloween at zouk. but i knew i was way too exhausted by then and i really shouldnt kill myself. besides, most part of me was missing home (: and lucky enough, i got home just in time to catch my folks before they turn in for the night! (: (: oh, there was a friendly game of mahjong with sistie and timbo! great way of catching up huh! (though timbo's eyes were glued to the soccer match on teevee half the time!)

2. sunday, learning to love everyone more
my parents treated me to a feast! CRABS! (: (: (: i love sundays a lot cause i get princess treatment, always!
then we visited grams who was, as always, smiley and chatty! huggies (:
i'm glad i kissed my parents today! though daddy says i really should be kissing a boyfriend, i would rather kiss them! heh. they dont know how glad i was to know that everything's good at home, after bugging them non-stop just to re-confirm that. cause some bad feelings just take a long time to rid

3. today
stressed :/
i cant split the little time i have left )': )': )';
i seriously dont know how this sem's results will turn out, given how lost i am now!!!
big criessssss

fact of the day:

geez. this must be how i look now! -tugs very hard-

bring me back
while re-reading my past entries the other day, (geez. i always do that! and i thought it was embarrassing to admit it till i found out that maxine does that too!!! HAHA!) i realised i liked my past entries much better, like those in july and august. it seemed like i was much happier back then. though there were stuff bothering me in that period of time, i blogged about happier things. recently, i havent got the luxury of time to doll up each post with my favourite columns- factoftheday and triviatoon. )':

a lot has been happening. it's as if everyone's under the same stress that school brings. good oldies are what we need to soothe us! here's one from vicvic! love it!

Some guys have all the luck
Some guys have all the pain
Some guys get all the breaks
Some guys do nothing but complain

im not complaining really. in fact, i count my blessings for how good life is now (minus the cui studies part of course) (:

anyway, to commemorate halloween, here's a quiz from blogthings.com. it helps anyone who cant decide on a costume! (: how i wish halloween was near the start of the year! i like halloween parties though i have never been to one before )': it's always so near to exams. cries! even linda from emitasia is going for tom's halloween party at zouk! she's the cutest sponsor ever! i want halloweennnnn tooooooo ):

Your Halloween Costume Should Be

A Bumble Bee
What Should You Be For Halloween?

fact of the day:
The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.

doubting the truth of it, i checked wiki and found this!
The tongue is often cited as the "strongest muscle in the body," a claim that does not correspond to any conventional definition of strength. Since three factors (neurological, physiological and mechanical) affect muscular strength simultaneously and muscles never work individually, it is unrealistic to compare strength in individual muscles, and state that one is the "strongest". Accordingly, no one muscle can be named 'the strongest'. The unexplained statement that "the tongue is the strongest muscle in the body" appears frequently in lists of surprising facts, but it is difficult to find any definition of "strength" that would make this statement true. Note that the tongue consists of sixteen muscles, not one.

mmm. coolquiz isnt that reliable after all.

newsfeed for the day:
Gays born that way? Jury's still out on that one, says MP - Oct 24, 2007

the recent heated debate on amendments of Section 377A has caused much hoo-ha in school. not only does our co law prof discuss it during out tutorials, it's been a much discussed topic over lunch. though i personally object to admending the law, it's depressing to read about their stories. i realise that it's something i try to understand but still cant accept.

i'm over the moon!
so happy i'm almost flying! ...

hah. okayy... just glad that i've found my motivation to really focus and mug really hard! WHEE! before stepping into the library, i had this strong urge to thank all my friends for being in my life. i really wanted to list out every one and let you guys know how much i appreciate all of you! but actually, most of you are the people who know about this blog and are the ones whom i know i can count on for a long long time (:

geez. i am supposed to be studying and here i am, hiding in one corner of lwn, typing these. :X dont scold me vic! three cheers to tonight's staying-over (:

we've got the verdict. or so we thought.

i really wanted to have a good talk
but you chose to turn and walk away
why hurt alone?
i want to be there but i cant reach you
there are still a million questions unanswered
pls dont fall into the same trap
pls dont make those mistakes again
you're only hurting yourself
and i hate to see that too

the little things
guess you guys wouldnt be able to see how much ali and baba have grown since phi phi island has changed so much that their hut's no longer there. and it's only been less than a year? ): oh well, it's always nice to receive a call from someone who's far away despite being jealous that i'm not the one who's there, not the one who's happily soaking up the sun/shopping/kayaking/snorkelling/eating delicious thai food etc. GEEZ. i wish i were half as carefree!

BUT!
i've been bad too.
vic and i had some girlie shopping!!! not really actually, we were very much ON TARGET! cause we got her presents settled within, say two hours? (: and even had time for some chokingly-good cream puffs (laughs!) and nonstop photo-taking!!! (:

and to relive those teenage years, we took neo-prints! hurhur

let us be ostriches
today:
fun fun shopping day! was supposed to do some proper pressie shopping but it became a roamroam-shop-for-yourself day which was much less stressful! high budget pressies can be real toughies. thanks shopaholic long long for much entertainment and voluntary work (:

thursday:
cake shopping was great fun (: we can amost be a ask-us-where-to-find-good-cakes directory! (: days are always fun with you around! and though i was drowning in my own troubles and suffering the curling tummy/backaches, the night got deliriously happier. we were amazingly high when tireness started setting in. lo lo my bestie! glad that we didnt witness any beetle invasion in your room (:

wednesday night:
thanks vic for staying over and takng care of me today!
we had a great talk with brenda too
about primary school incidents and all things silly

- - -

it's odd how life likes to set you up
and simplicity becomes hard to come by
sometimes, you enjoy things with less frills, less complications
but things dont always turn out the way you want them to

believe me, to clarify would mean to be clear of your intentions first
not blurting things out with carelessness
you left me dazed and lost, uncertain
like the opening of floodgates, the memories engulf me
piecing them up like jigsaw,
i can see it all so clearly
and i understand you well enough to know that all these will pass
there are some risks we cant take
not in jeopardy of the precious
and we will always remb
of this, we are well-aware
bukan cinta biasa

last night
i couldnt even get an answer
i tried to call
my pride wouldnt let me dial
and i'm sitting here
with this blank expression
and the way i feel
i wanna curl up like a child

if i told you once,
i told you twice
you can see it in my eyes

i wonder if it's because humans have two sides that when we look on one side, we might not see what has been on the other side all these while. and when we turn around, things will no longer be the same again. what's lost isnt just the moment. we become more certain, leaving what's history to settle with the dust.
why do these things keep having to come back to me?
i've lost touch
ive grown to be cynical
maybe what's best is to remain clamed up

i'm a month from exams. it's crazy
i have to let books be my only focus

my missing warriors
to all: SELAMAT HARI RAYA ADILFITRI!!!
congrats to everyone who has survived the tough 30 days of Ramadan (:

though it's a public holiday, most uni students have to gather together for project discussions. "Project" is an overused word in a typical tertiary student's life. but im really not complaining. in fact, i should count my blessings for having such a fun and bonded group. we work really well together!

our mosaic picture

macs breakfast before starting work!

after 7 hrs of discussion, bel and i did some quick shopping! (more of shopping for her 3rd yr anny present)
then, it dawned on us how staying in hall really keeps us away from civilisation. suntec has revamped quite a bit.
there's this musical fountain that looks like a miniature of the fountain of wealth but prettier. it's so special cause the tiny spots of light shining on the streams of water are made to synchronize with the pace of the music! listening to the gushes of water and observing the specks of white light makes me feel that im sleeping under blanket of stars. it's dazzling yet blissful (:
lately, i'm so awed by all these beautiful sights that it's almost like im keeping a mental note of the places that i wanna revisit, given the luxury of time.

the musical fountain

i'm exhausted.
assignments (and even shopping) can be so draining sometimes.
even so, i miss the diva a lot.
it's saturday night fever!
i wish i could be there.
well, it's true.
all im missing are the warriors.

today's indeed for reminisce of all happy things

i can still vividly remember odac trip to stong in mid-may this year.
to think that i was facing the fear of falling off the mountain and
fearing getting leech bites throughout the entire climb uphill and downhill,
i actually miss trekking
i miss the waterfall, stars-filled nightsky and the bumpy train rides (yes! i really like trains a lot!). i miss waking up to fresh air and actually seeing morning dew on leaves, cooking our sumptuous meals with the most rudimentary tools, being soaked in so much perspiration that i feel glad that im doing the best workout, watching the sun set and never wanting to leave..i long for the feeling that "i'm on the top of the world, looking down on creation..." -sings- this is indeed a once in a lifetime experience. as much as i miss trekking, i understand fully that i wouldnt have the guts to survive another trip of having to face those creepycrawlies.
but trekking really bonds people cause everyone looks out for each other in face of life-and-death situations
it's not a joking matter, really. cause we've all heard of unfortunate incidents
they do happen

the backpackers waiting for train! (the guys carry backpacks that are almost 50kg i swear)

seeing genuine crytals embedded in the rocks

caving

Sunrise, from the mountaintop

the bridge that marks the end of a fulfilling journey

and yet again, i miss krabi
that lucky person gets to visit it again
i wish i could go too
but it's okay
at least i know you will take ali and baba's pic for me (: yay!

on a side note, mark dropped me a bwestie message today! (: he's flying to brunei and yet we havent had gang outing since. GRRR

been on the swing for too long
ahem ahem! it's gonna be sushi-making class tom! *happy buttshakes!

today's indeed a jolly jolly day!

we should all learn to embrace the fact that singapore's a nanny-state and probably, will always be one. we are spoon-fed from the first day we are born and it has gradually become a part of us to be reliant. over-reliance is unhealthy. but im starting to think that the govt made us this way and it really isnt so bad. we have sheltered walkways from our doorstep to bus stops/next most-assessed place, we are protected from all things "harmful" with an abundance of censorship laws and harsh punishments for law-offenders. in school, information is dished out on a plate and standard career pathways all laid out. that's why, if we were ever left on our own, to find our own solutions or required to use our brains a bit, we get all worked up and panicky. well, that's an exaggeration.

what i wanted to say is how blessed we are that we are still in school, to have our welfare taken care of by endearing professors. to think that we are already full-fledged adults and yet have concerned teachers fuss over our lives came as quite a surprise, a pleasant one. today, i accompanied a worried friend who was contemplating a change of course from acct to biz and it was like bumping into the devil who's been speaking in ur head! her worries were exactly like mine but thankfully, we had a chance to speak to prof choo and were prevented from doing anything rash. we were very much enlightened by his sincere advice. THANKEW PROF! and there's very sweet Moira Khaw whom i still deeply respect a lot. even though her teaching method isnt one that a rigid rote-learner like me can appreciate, her passion and concern for us cant be doubted! YAY! NBS has wonderful profs! :D

Big City Life,
Me try fi get by,
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try.

Big City Life,
Here my heart have no base,
And right now Babylon de pon me case.

People in a show,
All lined in a row.
We just push on by,
Its funny,
How hard we try.

Take a moment to relax.
Before you do anything rash.

Don't you wanna know me?,
Be a friend of mine.
I'll share some wisdom with you.
Don't you ever get lonely,
From time to time
Don't let the system get you down

not trying to be a racist here but like what our prof in HG801 commented, the lyrics of some songs by the blacks can be hard to comprehend. what's "Babylon de pon me case"??? LOL.
but it's still a pretty nice song :)

today's a relatively happy day. i.e. 2 red cars!
cause i still like moira a lot though im a bad student. i think she's the best tax prof ever! though co law was bad, i know i really deserved it. so it's okay. just gotta stay positive, grab the opportunities ahead and dont brood over the sobsob past.

went to NIE lib today and i realised it's quite a fab place to study. ever since i went to natnat lib, i've been dreaming about returning there! so NIE lib today was a good enough substitute just minus the magnificient view and the cushiony seats. it's equally spacious, quiet and it smells of books (i like!) :)

i really had a good lunch and good laugh today. studying malay can be so fun! :) :) :) look at this really hilarious drawing by ryan. MUAHAHA! i am so nasty! well, i drew handsome muthu curry seller for you! :D

An ant can survive for up to two weeks underwater.

news feed of the day:
Affluent S'poreans are mostly 'executive warriors'
THE affluent in Singapore are mostly 'Executive Warriors' - typically middle-aged male, like golfing, and travel frequently for business purposes, a survey by global research company Synovate has found.

The regional survey of 11 Asian countries, tracked 1,700 Singaporeans with a minimum monthly household income of $6,500 and grouped them under five main consumer segments - the Executive Warriors, the Work to Live's, the Gimme's, the HUMmers (Hungry, Urban and Mobile) and the Luxury Loyalists.

About 36 per cent of the Singaporean respondents fell under the Executive Warriors category, dominated by well-educated, middle-aged males who command a high salary and work for big companies. On the move often for business, they stay current by getting their news and information about the region through PDAs and other mobile devices. They are well connected, work hard and play hard, and are willing to pay extra for quality. And they are big wine drinkers.

The Gimme's came in second, forming 29.1 per cent of the lot. Fashion-conscious, acquisitive and privileged, this group, aged between 25 and 34, works full-time, and goes for luxury products, especially designer clothings and leather items. They also the least likely to care about the environment or contribute to society, interested only in their own privileged world.

Next comes the Work to Live's, who accounted for 1 in five of those polled. Mostly in their mid-40s, and imbued with strong work ethos, they live to work, cherish work-life balance and spending time with family and friends. They are also more green and socially conscious.

The HUMmers formed 8.2 per cent of the lot and are mostly aged between 25 to 34. They are ambitious, positive about life, well-educated, technology savvy and in a hurry to reach the top. Looking good is important to them as they spend more than all the other groups on cosmetics, perfumes or cologne. When it comes to sports, they like tennis and cricket.

They are savvy users of technology and travel more for leisure than for business.

The Luxury Loyalists has the least presence in Singapore, comprising only 5.7 per cent. This segment is dominated by women, mostly aged above 45, are married with children and they tend to not work. They travel more for leisure, are proud owners of many luxury products, especially jewellery and watches.

tears and rain
How I wish I could surrender my soul;
Shed the clothes that become my skin;
See the liar that burns within my needing.
How I wish I'd chosen darkness from cold.
How I wish I had screamed out loud,
Instead I've found no meaning.

I guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain,
All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble.
Hides my true shape, like Dorian Gray.
I've heard what they say, but I'm not here for trouble.
It's more than just words: it's just tears and rain.

How I wish I could walk through the doors of my mind;
Hold memory close at hand,
Help me understand the years.
How I wish I could choose between Heaven and Hell.
How I wish I would save my soul.
I'm so cold from fear.

i can no longer save myself
when you dislike yourself, you cant seem to smile.
you question yourself and you cant find an answer
you just have to keep going, keep going

i dislike my apathy
i cant overcome my "natural" sloth
what has become of me?
i cant seem to smile
and i only have myself to blame

why am i becoming so cynical?
i wish i could blog about happier things all over again
may i see a better me in the coming week
meanwhile, i shall keep away from all distractions e.g. blogging

sometimes, i wish i had the courage to make big decisions
and perhaps i would be happier off doing what i enjoy
something that comes more naturally
but i know i cant always look on the other side
thinking that the grass is greener there
see how turtle-ly i am
another reason for the dislike

wash away the weariness
one of the many doctors i visited when i was much younger, told me that he shampoos only once a week cause one shouldnt wash away the natural oils that the scalp secretes and it's only healthier that way. i would say that it's not that disgusting really, for he's in his early fifties (i guesstimate la..) and you should understand that he has to take more preventive measures to retain the few strands he has left. i hate aging but that's beside the point.

sahara desert (my stuffy room in hall) made me shower thrice within half a day! once in the afternoon, then after the forum and an hr ago. it's record-breaking! and mm lee kuan yew mentioned at today's ministerial forum that the implications of this climate change is very much a growing concern. we are indeed suffering from the erratic weather patterns. *prays that our climate will be so topsy-turvy that maybe singapore will snow someday. bah.. it's just a random thought okie...

and so i was sleeping on bren's bed, (hoping that i could conc better when i migrate to their room but i obviously ended up sleeping again) soaking in my own perspiration. ewwwie. but im so thankful to have wendy and shin to drag me out of bed and psycho me to shower again, else i will never be near completion for co law assignment which is due by 5pm, TWELVE hours from now. GOSH!

im gonna hurry back to it!

sigh.

i always thought im quite a driven person. but as i got to understand myself better, i become increasingly disappointed. like why dont i do certain things the way i should and why cant i be as talented/aware as everyone else? it's sucha highschool kinda agony. like only highschoolers worried about these huh? well, i did and it's coming back to me again. i cant help it. as a tertiary student (or someone at the brink of tasting adulthood), it seems like you should have cultivated a habit to be updated about current affairs and an interest of that sort. but it's pretty much not the case for me. and it's sad.
i was at the ministerial forum for the sake of being there. bigcries. what i took back was far lesser than the rest. and i cant help but feel sad for myself. am i really only into shoes, desserts and all things fun? i really should take a concious effort to read up, lest i wanna end up feeling even more sorry for myself when i enter the workforce and have difficulties engaging in intellectual small talks with colleagues, big bosses and clients.

i have become so laid-back and way too happy-go-lucky. it's bad to just settle for average. i know i wasnt like this back in primary and sec school. i got better results back then and i always pushed myself to achieve more. but i no longer have that drive to stretch myself. i can accept mediocre (or rather, below average for now ): ) grades and i study for the sake of securing an accting job in future. it doesnt help that my parents pamper/trust me so much that they dont set standards for me anymore. on the contrary, they sometimes ask me to pon less impt lessons and invite me to their movie dates/shopping trips and whatnot. dont get me wrong. i dont blame my parents and i love hanging out with them. it's just that i half-wished that there was someone to scold me and give me wake-up calls that jolt me back to reality and remind me that this harsh harsh world requires me to have certain qualities that i dont already own. and i realised, that person has to be me. i cant ask anyone to save me if i cant even save myselfit's about time i redefine my goals and set my direction right. HA!

today, i actually had a freshie question me "what are you getting yourself into jacq???" before i throw myself into this negativity of being an acct, yet again. i should stop being envious of biz students who have so much time on hand that they can actually feel bored. i will start reminding myself that i should really follow through with my choice and prove to myself that i can do it. so just do it.
right now, contemplating whether i regret my choice or not is way too unhelpful. it's the last thing i wanna think about. and in many ways, i am my own foe.
oh yes, i realised that i quite missed castor/jango today, after bumping into alex. im sorry that i've been quite detached. i hope everyone's still as bonded and happy as before :D

p.s. to my best-froggie who calls me a lizard (zoompiak around the glasswindows of splendid natnat lib), the password thing wasnt intended to sound that way..
"and i wander through fiction to look for the truth" this line is from my current fav song - before it's too late, goo goo dolls
:)

fact of the day:
The two hemispheres of a dolphin's brain work independently. For 8 hours, the entire brain is awake. The left side then sleeps for 8 hours. When it wakes up, the right side sleeps for 8 hours. Thus, the dolphin gets 8 hours of sleep without ever having to stop physically.

a little bad-weather fun:
Living creatures create tiny weather systems called microclimates in their nests and burrows. For instance, bees fan their wings at the hive entrance during hot weather. This makes a cooling draft blow through the hive.

newsfeed for the day:

AN UNSTABLE Myanmar is a time-bomb in the region, said Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on Thursday night.
That is why Asean - and in turn, Singapore, which is at the heart of the South-east Asian regional body - must try its best to 'help stabilise Myanmar', he said. 'Asean leaders realise that if we have volatile and unstable neighbours, they will destabilise the whole region,' he told the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Students' Union ministerial forum.

This explains the common reaction from Asean leaders, foreign ministers, presidents and prime ministers of 'sorrow and revulsion' that Myanmar's generals had used armed force against monks and civilians who were demonstrating peacefully against their economic deprivations, he said.

Said Mr Lee: 'Asean leaders know that if the situation in Myanmar continues to deteriorate, there must come a breaking point when much more brutal force will again be necessary to put their people down.'
The founding father of Singapore brought up the issue of Myanmar - which he said 'looks troublesome' - to make the point that Singapore is situated in a volatile region.

too many, too many
I couldn't tell you why she felt that way,
She felt it everyday.
And I couldn't help her,
I just watched her make the same mistakes again.

What's wrong, what's wrong now?
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

Open your eyes and look outside, find the reasons why.
You've been rejected, and now you can't find what you left behind.
Be strong, be strong now.
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

Her feelings she hides.
Her dreams she can't find.

She's losing her mind.
She's fallen behind.
She can't find her place.
She's losing her faith.
She's fallen from grace.
She's all over the place.
Yeah,oh

She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

fact of the ramadan month:

Most varieties of snake can go an entire year without eating a single morsel of food.

word of the day:
A lychnobite is a person who works at night and sleeps during the day.

fact of the day:
Elephants sleep only two hours a day.

this is offically week one of my training to be haggydumbo (a haggard elephant). cries

"If you want your dreams to come true, don't sleep."
- Yevgeny Yevtushenko

i know what he means is to be more proactive and not to sleep on things. but the literal meaning is kinda apt.

a risk that would save
before it's too late - Goo Goo Dolls
made it to my blog twice! still pretty much a favourite

I wander through fiction to look for the truth
Buried beneath all the lies
and I stood at a distance
To feel who you are
Hiding myself in your eyes

and hold on before it's too late
Until we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

and the risk that might break you
Is the one that would save

A life you don't live is still lost
So stand on the edge with me
Hold back your fear and see
Nothing is real 'til it's gone

Hold on before its too late
Until we leave this behind
Don't fall just be who you are
It's all that we need in our lives

So live like you mean it
Love 'til you feel it
It's all that we need in our lives
So stand on the edge with me
Hold back your fear and see
Nothing is real 'til it's gone

It's all that we need in our lives
It's all that I need in my life

let it snow
why do they have to spray the mozziethingy and fog/stink up my entire room! CRIES!
today, i have that sudden urge to run away from all things.

when little things start to matter, i question myself - what exactly do i want? seems like i am not so certain of myself anymore.

i wish it would snow...
this sahara desert is killing me

bad weather makes people wanna sleep/chitchat/strangle the ragdoll/do anything but study
and so, i spent two hours on the phone and another two on the bed.
(chants "evil child evil child") least im gonna jog laters
that's my only consolation

*strangles the ragdoll once again
i wish i hadnt killed my fan.
or rather i wish it died only after the birth of its twin. grrr

oh yes! i joined the sushi-making course! conducted by sushi tei! *happy buttshakes!
cant wail till next wed!
